Resolution to endorse March 2nd Day of Action to Defend Public Education

Whereas UAW 2865 represents 12,000 Academic Student Employees in the UC system;

And whereas our members are both workers and students in the public education system now and hope to continue study and employment in the public education system in the future;

And whereas our members recognize the value of public education, both at the UC and at other levels from preschool through community colleges and state universities;

And whereas, some of the elected State leaders seem unclear on the vital importance of education to the economic and social well-being of the State’s residents, and seem to lack the backbone necessary to make simple changes that would increase the taxes on the State’s corporations and wealthiest residents in order to sustain basic public services such as education;

Therefore be it resolved that UAW 2865 endorse the March 2, 2011 Strike and Day of Action to Defend Public Education and encourage its members and colleagues to participate to the extent that they are able in building for and joining March 2, 2011 actions.

Resolved by the Joint Council of UAW 2865 on January 29, 2011.
